IMO these are a must if you're going to add a bunch more horsepower. With my mods. (see signature below) both 5.7's now put out about 420-440 hp and somewhat over 400 lb. ft. of torque from about 3000-5800 RPM. As far as the torque converter goes, about all you can do with it is change the engage/disengage RPM.
